Welcome to Sam's Questions and Answers
Answer: Do Golden Retriever dogs make good pets?
Yes, the Golden Retriever is a dog breed that is known for its intelligence, loyalty and gentle disposition. Golden retrievers are excellent family pets. They are friendly and outgoing, with a trusting gentle disposition. They take well to training and are used as guide dogs for the blind, hearing dogs for deaf people, hunting dogs, illegal drug detectors, and search and rescue dogs. Among all registered dogs in the United States, the Golden Retriever is the fourth most popular family dog breed. They make good companions for adults and children.
Originally bred in Scotland as a game dog to find and fetch fallen birds, Golden Retrievers take well to water. They are admired for their distinctive coat in shades of gold, either straight or wavy. In the United States, the American Kennel Club recognised the breed in 1925, and in 1938 the Golden Retriever Club of America was formed. The first three dogs to receive the AKC Obedience Champion title were Golden Retrievers.
